On the May 31st episode of JTBC’s “Please Take Care of My Refrigerator,” actors Shin Ye Eun and Lee Jun Young appeared together as guests and showed off their witty chemistry. Known for having an INFP personality type, Lee Jun Young is widely recognized in the entertainment industry as an introvert.
When the MCs asked if his introverted personality made idol activities difficult, Lee Jun Young immediately responded, “It was really difficult,” reflecting on his early career. Having debuted as a member of U-KISS in 2014, he explained that the industry trend at the time favored “pretty, healthy, cheerful younger members.” He admitted that he felt burdened by having to portray an image that was completely different from his true personality.
However, he revealed that performing on stage was one of the few situations where he could handle the pressure because he was able to immerse himself in the music. “The stage itself was good because I could focus on the songs,” he said. He then surprised viewers by adding: “When I performed, I often looked at the emergency exits. They were the easiest thing to see from the stage.”
According to Lee Jun Young, focusing his gaze on the emergency exits helped him regain a sense of calm whenever he felt emotionally overwhelmed. Hearing this, Ahn Jung Hwan and Kim Sung Joo jokingly remarked, “Did it make you feel safe because you knew where the way out was? So if something happened, you could just leave?” Their playful comments drew laughter from the studio.
The hosts kept teasing him, asking, “You must have had a lot of courage to come here today. Did you look for the emergency exits in this studio too?” Lee Jun Young quickly responded, “Actually, I checked as soon as I got there, but there weren’t any,” earning another laugh with his witty response.
He also shared a funny incident caused by his shyness. In the past, Lee Jun Young would abruptly end a live broadcast after suddenly cutting off communication with viewers, leaving fans confused and worried.
Explaining the situation, he said: “A lot more viewers than usual joined and I panicked. I was afraid I might say something wrong, so I just turned it off. People probably thought something serious had happened.” He added that he has since developed a personal strategy for coping with the pressure: “I’m a little more used to it now, so I just don’t look at the viewership number displayed at the top of the screen.”
Lee Jun Young first gained attention as an actor in tvN’s 2017 drama “Avengers Social Club.” Since then, he has built a solid filmography with standout performances in “DP,” “The Impossible Heir” and “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale,” among other projects.
Last month, during an interview with a media outlet, Lee Jun Young also announced his retirement from solo singing activities, signaling his intention to focus more on his acting career moving forward.
