Comedian Kim Shin Young recently opened up about the unforgettable moment that convinced her to give up alcohol forever, and it involved an unexpected “discussion” with a life-size character of AOA member Seolhyun.
In a newly released collection of never-before-seen footage uploaded to comedian Kim Young Chul’s YouTube channel, Kim Shin Young spoke candidly about her past drinking habits and the incidents that ultimately pushed her to stop drinking alcohol.
The comedian explained that she stopped drinking about seven to eight years ago because her drunken behavior had become increasingly worrying. According to Kim Shin Young, the decision was not made lightly, but rather after realizing how extreme her actions could become when she was drunk.
Recalling one particularly disturbing incident, she revealed that once, while drunk, she had scratched a door so aggressively that several of her nails had been damaged. What shocked her even more was that she had no memory of the subsequent event. Friends who witnessed the situation later told her they were genuinely frightened by her behavior.
However, the story that sparked the biggest reaction involved K-pop star Seolhyun.
Kim Shin Young said that during a drunken episode, he mistook a cardboard figure of Seolhyun for the real person and started scolding her. He jokingly recalled saying something like, “Your senior is right here and you’re not even saying hello to me? What are you doing?”
The following day, fragments of the incident slowly returned to her mind. As she remembered what happened, she felt embarrassed and felt compelled to contact Seolhyun personally. Kim Shin Young revealed that he even called the singer to apologize after realizing that he had gotten into an argument with a promotional character bearing Seolhyun’s image.
Looking back, the comedian described the incident as one of many wake-up calls that made her reconsider her relationship with alcohol. He has since maintained a sober lifestyle and often speaks openly about the positive changes this has brought to his life.
