Even Jennie’s feet aren’t safe: BLACKPINK star faces harsh body shaming

On April 24, a close-up photo of Jennie’s feet taken at a “0.5 angle” spread quickly on social media, but not in a good way. The image sparked a wave of body shaming comments, with some netizens criticizing her feet as “rough”, “deformed” or unusually long. Some even went so far as to label her as having the “ugliest feet” among female idols in the Korean entertainment industry.

As the discussion intensified, many fans and observers jumped in to defend the BLACKPINK member. They argued it was unfair that Jennie – often called the “world’s most powerful beauty” – was targeted for such trivial details, especially when the criticism appeared exaggerated and malicious.

Supporters also pointed out that Jennie has never hidden her feet and often shares photos showing them on social media. The so-called “weird” look in the viral image was likely due to lens distortion from the 0.5 camera angle, which can stretch features unnaturally. In other everyday photos and magazine features, her feet appear completely normal and proportionate.

Some netizens also noted that given Jennie’s height of 1.63 meters, a shoe size around 38-39 would be natural for balance. Criticizing her for not having smaller feet, such as size 35-36, has been described as unreasonable and unrealistic.

A recurring target of online hate

This isn’t the first time Jennie’s appearance has come under severe scrutiny. In November 2024, images of her wearing biker shorts and a sporty crop top for a Vogue shoot also attracted negative attention. One particular screenshot highlighting her slightly protruding lower abdomen went viral, accompanied by mocking captions.

At the time, fans quickly defended her, explaining that such body characteristics are normal, especially after eating or when the body is relaxed. They pointed out that Jennie maintains a fit and healthy physique, countering the unrealistic beauty standards often placed on idols.

Previously, Jennie also faced criticism from international netizens for wearing a black and white dress to a colleague’s wedding. However, fans clarified that such attire is in line with Korean cultural norms, in which guests typically dress in muted tones to show respect to the bride and groom and avoid overshadowing them.

Despite repeated controversies, Jennie continues to face intense scrutiny, highlighting the ongoing problem of online harassment in the entertainment industry.
