On June 5, former AOA member Kwon Mina shared a lengthy message on social media, thanking fans who had expressed concern about his condition and providing an update on his recovery.
Mina revealed photos of her current skin condition and explained that while she has noticed significant improvement since the January incident, her healing has recently slowed down, leaving her anxious about the future. “I am receiving constant care in a specialized hospital and my condition has improved significantly since January. However, the recovery process has slowed down lately and, to be honest, I am very scared.” he wrote.
According to Kwon Mina, the injury occurred during a laser heat shrink treatment in January. He said the accident caused severe pain and required ongoing medical attention. Doctors initially reportedly informed her that she might need skin graft surgery and a treatment period of up to two years. Although his condition has improved, he now plans to undergo at least another year of treatment and the possibility of permanent scarring has not been completely ruled out.
The former idol also responded to reports that he received nearly KRW 20 million (around $14,000) in compensation from the doctor involved. Kwon Mina stressed that the payment was not granted without justification, explaining that he had submitted detailed medical records and receipts to receive support for the costs of treatment and damages related to the injury.
He also said the clinic stopped providing financial assistance for future treatments after March and instead took legal action. As a result, she says she currently covers all medical expenses herself.
Kwon Mina also revealed that the injury has affected his professional activities. It said it was unable to complete previously signed film and advertising projects, resulting in lost earnings of approximately KRW 74 million. He added that there were further potential contracts worth around KRW 20-30 million that were never finalized due to his condition.
The singer also claimed that she attempted to reach a settlement with the doctor, but was instead accused of making threats. Expressing his frustration, he wrote, “The director might be having a hard time too, but how do you think I feel when my life has completely changed overnight?”
Kwon Mina concluded by explaining that she had remained silent for months out of fear that speaking in public would negatively impact her legal position. However, she said she can no longer remain silent as the prolonged recovery and ongoing dispute continue to weigh heavily on her.
The former AOA member is currently focused on treatment and recovery, while the dispute over the incident remains unresolved.
