On April 29, Go So-young uploaded a video to her personal YouTube channel, in which she looked back at her past acting projects and spoke honestly about the years spent away from the screen.
When asked about the most representative work of her career, Go So-young jokingly replied, “I don’t have a truly representative work. It’s a shame. Could marrying my husband be my most precious work?” Her husband is actor Jang Dong-gun, one of the most famous Korean stars.
Go So-young admitted that when she was younger she didn’t focus much on building her career. He said: “When I was young, I just wanted to have fun. Now I work 5 days a week, but back then, once I did one thing, I couldn’t do anything else.” The actress also shared that she has been hit with many false rumors throughout her career, including dating rumors and claims that she was pregnant before marriage. For this reason she has become quite cautious around the media.
After spending many years as a wife and mother, Go So-young said she is now asking herself what she really likes and what she wants to do. She explained: “My first child is now 17 years old and takes care of everything well even without me. For 10 years I only focused on raising my children. I was even obsessed with being a mother.”
Go So-young also confessed that returning to the entertainment industry comes with pressure. She said, “My husband is a famous person, right? The thought that my actions could affect my children and family made it difficult for me to easily say what I wanted to say.”
Go So-young, born in 1972, was once considered one of the most admired actresses in Korean entertainment for both her beauty and her acting. She appeared in dramas and films such as Memories, Beat, Love Wind Love Song, and A Day. She married Jang Dong-gun in 2010 and later retired from acting, appearing from time to time mainly in commercials.
Recently, Go So-young signed with a new entertainment agency and is reportedly looking for new acting opportunities. The star couple is also known for their luxurious lifestyle, including high-end fashion, expensive real estate and foreign trips. Go So-young is often described in Korean media as one of the “rich ladies” in Korean entertainment.
