Two members of BABYMONSTER have come under scrutiny after wearing skimpy stage outfits and performing provocative choreography during the group’s recent concert, despite being only 18-19 years old.
The K-pop girl group officially kicked off their world tour with opening concerts in Seoul, South Korea.
However, after the Seoul shows, one of the biggest talking points online was the styling and mature stage concepts assigned to some of the group’s younger members.
Ahyeon, the 19-year-old member often nicknamed the “the next Jennie”, took the stage in a strapless black minidress decorated with sparkling crystals and metallic details. The asymmetrical design helped create a striking performance look.
As fancams from the concert spread across social media, many concertgoers pointed out that the strapless dress appeared overly tight and lacked secure shoulder support. During the intense choreography, the outfit repeatedly slipped down, leaving fans worried the singer might be suffering a wardrobe malfunction.
Despite the situation, Ahyeon maintained her professionalism throughout the performance. While continuing to sing and dance, she repeatedly adjusted her dress and used her hair to cover her chest whenever possible. During the most challenging dance moves, he protected himself carefully to avoid exposing himself too much.
Most of the criticism was aimed at YG Entertainment, with many fans claiming that the company failed to prioritize the artist’s comfort and safety when choosing her stage costume. Others also questioned whether such a skimpy outfit was appropriate for an idol who only recently reached adulthood under Korean law.

Ahyeon wasn’t the only member to become the center of controversy. Thai member Chiquita also attracted widespread attention after filming her performance “It’s worth it” during the Seoul concert released online.
The stage opened with Chiquita performing against a spectacular red backdrop while performing bold and sensual choreography.
Rather than focus on the quality of his performance, many discussions online have focused on concerns that YG Entertainment is presenting an overly mature and provocative image for the 17-year-old idol.
Some commentators have argued that the problem extends beyond this single performance, arguing that BABYMONSTER’s overall concept and promotional direction have recently leaned too much towards a mature style for its younger members.
Chiquita’s performance also reignited a broader debate about the K-pop industry, which continues to face criticism for sexualizing underage idols and using mature concepts for commercial appeal.
