“Keep It a Secret”…Han Chae-young’s Past Kindness Toward Her Manager Resurfaces Amid Park Na-rae’s Abuse of Power Charges

Amid ongoing allegations regarding comedian Park Na-rae’s alleged abuse of power towards her former managers, actress Han Chae-young’s past actions towards her own manager have resurfaced, drawing renewed public attention.

The renewed interest stems from Han Chae-young’s appearance on the MBC variety show The director (전지적참견시점) in July 2021, where she revealed her close and caring relationship with her manager. At the time, the broadcast showed Han Chae-young personally leading staff members to help furnish her manager’s newly moved home with daily necessities.

Seeing the car trunk full of supplies, a staff member jokingly remarked: “Did you really buy all this? They look like emergency rations.” The scene left viewers impressed with its careful preparation.

Inside the manager’s house, a signed autograph that Han Chae-young gave him when they first met was carefully preserved. “It is still in perfect condition,” said the director. “I kept it safe so it wouldn’t get wrinkled.” The house was also filled with furniture and household items donated by Han Chae-young, including curtains, a mattress, coat racks, a table, a sofa, and an air purifier.

The manager chose a custom-made table with container as his favorite gift, explaining: “It’s the same table he has in his house. He had it made specifically to fit in my house, which makes it even more meaningful.”

During the interview, the manager hesitated before getting emotional and revealing himself, “She told me to keep it a complete secret, but she was actually the one who found me this house.” He went on to reveal that Han Chae-young had covered the jeonse (lump sum rent) deposit for his house in Seoul.

“I was struggling a lot and had decided to quit my job and return to Daegu,” he shared. “When he heard that, he told me, ‘You’re someone who can succeed. You’re going to be a lot bigger. I can’t do it without you.’ He helped me so I could continue working.”

Watching the footage, Han Chae-young explained his reasoning. “My manager’s hometown is Daegu. I also came to Korea from the United States when I was young and worked without my parents, so I understand how difficult it is to be alone,” he said. “He had something he wanted to do but couldn’t due to circumstances, so I helped him out a little.”

He added, “In this industry, there are times when you don’t know who’s really on your side. A manager feels like family, someone who’s always on my side.”

Han Chae-young’s past remarks have resurfaced as comedian Park Na-rae is currently embroiled in a legal dispute with her former managers. On December 4, her former managers filed for provisional seizure of Park Na-rae’s property, alleging workplace harassment, special injury, proxy prescriptions and unpaid production expenses. In response, Park Na-rae countered them with charges including blackmail and embezzlement, turning the conflict into a full-blown legal battle.

As the controversy continues, public attention has turned to contrasting examples within the entertainment industry, with Han Chae-young’s actions cited as a notable example of trust and mutual respect between an artist and her manager.
