Taiwan’s entertainment industry has been rocked by a disturbing personal scandal involving actress Chen Kuang-yi, once hailed as one of showbiz’s most beautiful “youth goddesses.” The actress sparked widespread concern after she allegedly wrote a suicide note following allegations from several former college classmates, who claimed she had made inappropriate advances towards them despite them being married.
According to Taiwanese media reports, Chen Kuang-yi’s unusual behavior has been going on for years. Several classmates at her university said they had received messages from the actress asking to meet privately. These meetings were reportedly held late at night, at the men’s homes or in secluded public places. Some said that when she appeared, Chen Kuang-yi was wearing revealing sleepwear such as thin tank tops and shorts.
A former classmate who agreed to meet her said Chen Kuang-yi behaved erratically, speaking incoherently and asking highly personal questions ranging from income and marital relations to the idea of dating her. Alarmed by her mental state, the man allegedly found an excuse to leave and subsequently blocked her contact.
In October, Chen Kuang-yi was also involved in a dispute with a senior at her university after she posted a photo of a dinner he was at on social media. Since the man is married with children and feared misunderstanding, he would contact her politely and ask her to remove the photo. Instead, Chen Kuang-yi reportedly reacted angrily, wondering if his wife was upset and refusing to delete the post, even daring him to get a lawyer involved.
“I attended a dinner with her in 2023, hosted by a mutual friend. I barely knew her and only greeted her out of politeness, yet she behaved irrationally,” the man is said to have said. “If he has a disease, he should seek treatment.”
After allegations of approaching former classmates emerged, Chen Kuang-yi raised further alarm by posting a series of dark and desperate messages on social media, suggesting suicidal thoughts. She said she felt devastated by allegations that she was trying to become a “third party” in other people’s marriages, despite having once been romantically pursued by famous actors such as Chen Bolin and Guo Pin-chao.
“My suicide note is almost finished. How can you say such false things about me? I have endured enough. It is you who have pushed me into depression and a life surrounded by criticism and slander,” he wrote.
Friends and acquaintances are said to be deeply concerned about his mental stability. Sources say Chen Kuang-yi has shown signs of psychological distress since last year. She was once reportedly seen wandering the streets for two consecutive days and even changing clothes inside a glass-fronted shop facing a busy street.
Born in 1987, Chen Kuang-yi rose to fame as one of Taiwan’s most beloved young actresses, starring in popular dramas such as Small times, Heart of steelAND Prince William. In recent years, however, her career has slowed due to public backlash, including a past scandal involving leaked photos linked to an alleged affair with actor Chang Hsiao-chuan.
