Former f(x) singer Luna delivered a powerful performance as she opened the musical “Mali” on December 20 at Baekam Art Hall in Seoul.
The 32-year-old artist played the lead role of Mali, an 18-year-old character who once lived as a child and now leads a normal life. Luna’s portrayal showcased emotional depth as her character returned to the past, inhabiting the body of a doll named Levi. The musical tells a touching story about reconciliation and self-acceptance. Mali’s journey involves confronting her fascinating past and discovering her true place in life.
Luna’s vocal abilities stood out throughout the performance, she reports he said. The singer demonstrated her range, moving from powerful high notes to soft, lyrical tones. His chemistry with the other cast members, especially those who played young Mali and the Levi doll, was also quite clear.
This production represents another milestone in Luna’s expansion career in musical theatre. His previous theater credits include leading roles in “Mamma Mia!,” “Hamlet” and “TokTok.”
Following the successful opening, Luna expressed gratitude to the audience and shared her hopes for the production’s impact.
“I hope that all Mali in the world can find comfort and courage through this story, and are able to exist as themselves in a difficult world,” she said.
The musical “Mali” will continue its run at Baekam Art Hall until February 15, 2026.
Moon debuted in September 2009 as the lead singer and lead dancer of f(x), a five-member group that also included Victoria, Amber, Krystal and Sulli. Over the course of a decade, the group became known for its critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums, including 2013’s Pink ribbon and 2015 4 wallswhile pioneering electronic dance music and synth-pop in K-pop.
However, the group gradually disappeared from the spotlight after 2016 as the members pursued individual careers. In 2015, Sulli left to focus on acting.
As of September 2019, the remaining members have not renewed their contracts with SM Entertainment, effectively ending the group’s activities. Luna left SM Entertainment and later founded her own label, Grida Entertainment.
