On October 16, Kim Jong-kook uploaded a new video titled “This Isn’t SM Town (feat. Yunho, Chanyeol, Yuri, Suho, Ma Sun-ho)” on his personal YouTube channel, explaining the reason for the removal of his previous vlog.
He explained, “Articles started coming out saying that I had deleted the video to hide my wife’s silhouette – something completely absurd. I saw that story spread as if it were fact, and it was just unbelievable.”
He added, “Sometimes in life, things become distorted or unfair. There have been many distorted stories about my marriage as well, and while it is frustrating, I accept that it is partly my fault for creating situations that gave them ground. I will continue to do my best and live truthfully.”
Kim Jong-kook stressed that he is “not crazy enough to behave like that” and insisted that his decision to remove the video was not related to hiding his wife’s image.
On October 9, Kim Jong-kook uploaded a vlog of his honeymoon in Paris, showing the inside of his hotel room. However, eagle-eyed viewers noticed a faint silhouette of his wife reflected in the window. Shortly after the discovery, Kim Jong-kook set the video to private, leading to speculation that he did so to hide his appearance.
Although Kim Jong-kook’s clarification aimed to resolve the issue, many netizens pointed out that the issue was never about his wife’s privacy.
Online comments largely agree that it is understandable that Kim Jong-kook is protecting his wife, not a celebrity, who had reportedly requested privacy from the start. The real frustration, they argue, comes from Kim Jong-kook’s inconsistent approach: keeping his wedding a secret while at the same time using content from the wedding and honeymoon for ads and monetized views.
Kim Jong-kook’s wedding was famously kept under strict secrecy, with the number of guests limited to 100 people (50 from each family). The place had also remained confidential until the day before, and according to him Running Man castmates, Kim went so far as to ask for silence during his walk down the aisle.
Given the extreme privacy of his marriage, many netizens are now wondering why he continues to talk about his wife and life as a newlywed on several TV shows, including Running Man, My old manAND Problematic child at home — as well as on his YouTube channel, where he’s shared everything from guest invitations to honeymoon footage.
One viral comment said: “If he really wants privacy, he could just stop talking about it. The problem is not the hidden wife, but the contradiction.”
Despite Kim Jong-kook’s emotional statement that he felt “offended” by the rumors, public sympathy has been limited. Many viewers see his response as missing the point, focusing on denying minor speculation instead of addressing his blurred line between privacy and self-promotion.
While fans understand his frustration, the general consensus online is clear: Kim Jong-kook’s “injustice” talk has only deepened skepticism rather than resolved it.
