Ahn Jae Hyun, who divorced Goo Hye Sun in 2020, made a joking remark during the January 10 broadcast of MBC’s “I Live Alone,” expressing admiration for SHINee’s Key’s filial piety.
The episode featured Key celebrating his mother’s retirement ceremony. Returning to his hometown in Daegu, Key shared, “Today is my mother’s last day at work” and added, “I have prepared a retirement ceremony to congratulate her.” For the occasion, Key had a custom-made doll and plaque that resembled her mother. He explained, “I wanted to leave a special gift that she would appreciate, something meaningful like a trophy.”
Key’s mother worked as a nurse for 36 years and retired as a chief nursing officer. Key expressed his respect, saying: “My mother dedicated many years to service.”
Reflecting on his childhood, Key prepared a special dish. “I looked up the braised soy sauce recipe that my grandmother often made when I was in elementary school,” he shared, “and it reminded me of going to school while my mother went to work.” He added, “I thought my parents would love this dish.”
On the day of the ceremony, Key accompanied his mother on her final ride to the hospital. He said, “My father and I always accompanied her and this time I wanted to be there for her last trip.” Key’s mother was moved and said joyfully: “It was worth raising a son like him.”
In addition to the ceremony, Key also practiced meaningful giving by donating 50 million won to a children’s hospital. “I wanted to do something meaningful in honor of my mother’s retirement,” he said. “I was surprised when they prepared a ceremony at the donation center.”
Watching the broadcast, Jeon Hyun Moo joked, “I don’t know when my parents’ last working day will be,” and added, “In my family, we all take care of ourselves.” Ki An 84 remembered his mother, saying: “My mother retired from teaching kindergarten, but one day I realized she had retired.” Ahn Jae Hyun jokingly added, “If I had a child like Key, I would want to have 10.”
