On December 25, NewJeans appeared on CBS Radio’s “Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show”. The appearance was conducted solely by the group without consulting the ADOR, sparking considerable interest in the members’ statements.
In the radio program the name of the group “NewJeans” was not mentioned; instead, the members were introduced individually as Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. During the broadcast, NewJeans avoided discussing their exclusive contract dispute with ADOR and instead performed live, shedding tears in the process.
Hanni introduced her self-composed song, “Darling Darling,” which was written after the firing of Min Hee-jin, the former CEO of ADOR. He shared, “It was a really difficult time for us. We wondered whether we should secretly get together to sing it for Bunnies (the name of the NewJeans fandom) or do a live broadcast to share it. Every time I sing it, I find myself crying, thinking of the hardships we have endured. It seems that the wounds have not healed.”
Minji’s outfit particularly attracted the audience’s attention during the broadcast. He wore a T-shirt with the name “MINHEEJIN” and a picture of Min Hee-jin from a press conference. The center of the shirt depicted the members of NewJeans, seemingly surrounded by Min Hee-jin, hinting at the dynamics between them.
After the radio show, NewJeans posted on a separate account, in addition to their official one, “We did our hair and makeup for the radio. We did well, didn’t we?” showing their confident attitude. Reactions online have been varied, with comments such as: “They seem to be enjoying the moment.” AND “I didn’t expect them to include messages like that on a T-shirt.”
Meanwhile, on the 29th of last month, NewJeans declared the termination of its exclusive contract with ADOR. In response, ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE, filed a lawsuit in the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of the contract.
Furthermore, on the 24th, ADOR declared to the media: “Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show appearance was independently decided and conducted by the artists without consulting the company. We were not aware of the apparition in advance.”
