Chinese actresses Zhang Jingyi and Zhou Ye found themselves at the center of controversy after a production error on the popular variety show Hello6 unleashed widespread reaction online.
During a recent filming session, the production team mistakenly placed Zhou Ye’s photo on the board with the name of Zhang Jingyi, who was the actual guest who appeared on the set. Although the mistake initially went unnoticed during filming, it quickly gained traction after behind-the-scenes images circulated on social media.
Following the incident, both actresses’ agencies released official statements, demanding a public apology and stressing that the mistake was serious as it directly affected the artists’ public image.
However, the show’s response, or lack thereof, further fueled criticism. Despite continuing to release promotional content as usual, the production team has yet to issue an official explanation or apology, leading many netizens to question the professionalism of the staff.
Beyond the production error, the situation has also reignited discussion about the striking visual similarities between Zhang Jingyi and Zhou Ye. Both actresses, born after 1995, are known for their delicate features, V-shaped jaws and soft, elegant images, traits that align with current beauty trends in China’s entertainment industry.

Factors such as similar makeup styles, lighting and camera angles have also been cited as contributing to the confusion, with some netizens admitting that they too occasionally struggle to distinguish between the two stars.
However, many argue that such similarities cannot justify the mistake, pointing out that production teams should maintain higher standards of accuracy and respect when handling artists’ identities.
As the controversy continues, public attention remains focused on whether the show will issue a formal apology and how the situation will ultimately be resolved.
