Korean television just aired another high-octane comedy that’s leaving viewers in stitches. The drama is Reborn Rookie, a new series that takes the familiar soul-swapping concept and gives it an unexpected twist.
Unlike most body-swap dramas that revolve around a male and female protagonist swapping identities, Reborn Rookie tells the story of an experienced chaebol president and a young aspiring football player.
The president is Kang Yong Ho, head of the Choiseong Group, one of the largest conglomerates in South Korea. Having built the business empire with his own hands, he is widely known as a legendary business genius. On the other side there is Hwang Jun Hyeon, a young footballer who has just arrived at FC Choiseong, a club that plays in the first division.
Unfortunately, Jun Hyeon’s promising future takes a devastating turn when he is hit by a car. The responsible driver is none other than Kang Yong Ho’s son.
After causing the accident, the perpetrators flee the scene and allegedly use the family’s influence to destroy evidence in an attempt to escape responsibility. As a result, Hwang Jun Hyeon suffers serious leg injuries, putting his dream of becoming a professional footballer in jeopardy.
After accidentally obtaining evidence related to the incident, Jun Hyeon takes it directly to President Kang Yong Ho. Desperate to protect his son, Kang attempts to silence the young man with money. It seems that the matter has been resolved, but an unexpected accident soon follows, causing the two men’s souls to exchange bodies.

Now trapped in Hwang Jun Hyeon’s body, Kang Yong Ho returns to Choiseong Group as a rookie employee. His journey as a “new recruit” within the company creates a series of hilarious situations that increase the comedy and entertainment value of the drama.
After airing its first two episodes on JTBC, Reborn Rookie recorded ratings of 3,695% and 5,156%, respectively. The significant increase from episode 1 to episode 2 is a positive sign, suggesting that audiences are responding strongly to both the plot and the performances.
Leading the series is Lee Jun Young, one of the most versatile young actors in Korean entertainment. He once again demonstrates his acting skills with a performance that received widespread praise. Lee successfully portrays the stark contrast between young Hwang Jun Hyeon and President Kang Yong Ho after the soul exchange, creating many of the drama’s funniest and most memorable moments.

Meanwhile, veteran actor Son Hyun Joo takes on the role of Kang Yong Ho. Drawing on his decades of acting experience, he plays a completely different character from the sinister mad scientist Ha Won Do that viewers recently saw in The Wonderfools. His performance adds depth and credibility to the drama’s unique premise.
In addition to Lee Jun Young and Son Hyun Joo, Reborn Rookie also features a strong supporting cast that includes Lee Ju Myoung, Jeon Hye Jin, Jin Goo, and Yoon Yoo Sun.
