Weibo explodes over rumors that Macau heiress Laurinda Ho and Shawn Dou are divorcing

On July 3, Chinese outlet Sohu reported that Weibo had been flooded with discussions after rumors surfaced that a post-85 actor and his billionaire heiress wife had ended their marriage. According to an entertainment blogger, the couple has agreed to officially announce their divorce this month. The reason for separation is said to be a gradual loss of affection after spending long periods apart.

After the blogger’s post, both media and netizens quickly identified the couple as Shawn Dou and Laurinda Ho. Shawn Dou, born in 1988, is one of the most recognizable Chinese actors of his generation, while Laurinda Ho is the daughter of the late Macau casino magnate Stanley Ho.

Over the past three years, signs of distance and tension between Shawn Dou and Laurinda Ho have become increasingly evident. Reports state that the actor is no longer welcome at his wife’s family’s home. He has reportedly been absent from major gatherings involving the influential Ho family, including memorial services for his father-in-law and celebrations for his mother-in-law. As a result, many online observers have described her marriage as one that has status but offers few real benefits. Some reports even claim that Shawn Dou spent around 60 million yuan of his savings on their lavish wedding in Bali, only to later receive little support from his wife’s family.

Many Chinese netizens say they wouldn’t be surprised if the couple eventually confirmed their divorce. Despite repeated denials, fans believe their relationship has appeared increasingly distant. As of early 2026, Shawn Dou and Laurinda Ho have reportedly only been seen together a handful of times. The actor also did not travel to Hong Kong to celebrate the Lunar New Year with his wife’s family, instead staying on the mainland while filming new projects.

Shawn Dou and Laurinda Ho publicly confirmed their relationship in 2019. When Stanley Ho died, the actor attended the funeral as the family’s future son-in-law. Shawn proposed to Laurinda in September 2022, and the couple held a lavish wedding ceremony in Bali in April 2023, attracting widespread attention across Asia.

However, just a few months after the wedding, Laurinda was reportedly living mostly in Hong Kong with her family, while Shawn remained in mainland China. The couple has since stopped sharing romantic moments on social media. Laurinda has rarely been seen visiting her husband on the mainland, while Shawn has been absent from family occasions such as his mother-in-law’s birthday celebrations, memorial events for Stanley Ho and corporate functions involving the casino empire. By 2025, Chinese media also noted that the couple no longer appeared together publicly or interacted online.

Entertainment personality Tiffany Chen Lan previously said that the couple’s marital problems stemmed from the fact that Laurinda Ho’s family allegedly despised Shawn Dou’s modest background, including her early work as a hairdresser. According to these claims, Laurinda’s mother was openly against the marriage, contributed nothing to the expenses of the wedding, and refused to allow the family assets to be shared with Shawn or for him to be involved in the Ho family business empire. Rumors also claimed that the actor became increasingly frustrated with the lack of respect from his in-laws, which led to the separation. Some reports even stated that his divorce filing accused the family of controlling his personal life, pushing him to retire from acting, and treating him with contempt.

In October 2025, Shawn Dou and Laurinda Ho publicly denied rumors that their marriage was in trouble. They insisted that their relationship remained strong, explaining that work commitments required them to live in different cities while staying in touch via daily phone calls.

Despite their joint statement, many Internet users remain unconvinced. Some pointed out that the couple’s denial closely resembled previous responses to similar rumors. Others questioned why Shawn continued to miss virtually every important event hosted by Laurinda’s family, why the couple stopped sharing photos together, and why they spent holidays, including the Lunar New Year and their wedding anniversary, apart. According to critics, these lingering questions have never been fully addressed by either Shawn Dou or Laurinda Ho.
