Disney+ drama Perfect Crown once again finds itself facing controversy after reports revealed that the entire cast and production team collectively refused post-finale media interviews despite the series’ soaring ratings success.
Starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok, the romantic drama steadily gained viewers throughout its run and reportedly reached an impressive 13.3% rating before its finale.
However, shortly before the final episode aired, Korean media reported that all of the main cast members – including IU, Byeon Woo Seok, Gong Seung Yeon, Noh Sang Hyun, Yoo Soo Bin and Lee Yeon – refused to participate in traditional post-drama press interviews.
The production team also reportedly has no plans to speak to the media after the drama wraps up.
The unusual decision immediately sparked criticism because post-finale interviews are considered a long-standing tradition in the Korean entertainment industry, especially for hit drama series. Actors typically use interviews to discuss memorable scenes, behind-the-scenes stories, and thank viewers for their support.
Korean media questioned the explanation that scheduling conflicts were responsible for the cancellations, claiming that productions of this scale usually coordinate interview schedules in advance.
The reaction quickly spread across Korean online communities, where many netizens criticized the cast and production team for allegedly avoiding taking responsibility amid the growing controversy surrounding the drama.
Some comments accused the stars of declining interviews because they anticipated difficult questions from journalists regarding the many criticisms leveled at the series.
Since its premiere, Perfect Crown has repeatedly faced backlash over alleged historical distortions, controversial royal symbolism, and criticism aimed at its acting performances and storytelling quality.
The controversy intensified recently after MBC reportedly decided to remove controversial scenes involving the phrase “Cheonse” and ceremonial images that some viewers said carried problematic historical implications.
According to entertainment channel STAR TODAY, the production’s decision to collectively avoid media appearances may have been an attempt to downplay further controversy. However, many viewers believe the silence has only worsened public frustration.

The drama was originally considered one of the most anticipated projects in the industry thanks to IU’s award-winning acting reputation and Byeon Woo Seok’s explosive popularity after Lovely Runner. Due to the enormous expectations surrounding the series, reactions to its controversies have become even more intense.
Despite the criticism, the drama continues to generate huge discussions online as audiences remain divided between viewers praising its chemistry and visuals and others criticizing its handling of sensitive historical themes.
