The actress shared her story in a recent video uploaded to her YouTube channel, where she reunited with her longtime stylist over dinner and reminisced about the challenges they faced together.
During the conversation, Lee Yoo Bi’s stylist became emotional as he recalled a difficult chapter in the actress’ life. “You couldn’t work for about two or three years. We cried together, wondering when you could work again.” The heartfelt exchange prompted Lee Yoo Bi to open up about the struggles she experienced before returning to acting.
Lee Yoo Bi explained that she took a two-year break due to illness. As she prepared to return to acting, she suffered a back injury, leaving her physically and mentally drained while filming her first leading role in the historical fantasy drama Scholar Who Walks the Night. “It was my first leading role and I had completely lost confidence.”
He recalled barely remembering the filming process due to his condition. “I don’t even know how I managed to film Scholar Who Walks the Night. I was going back and forth from the set. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind, so how could I give a good performance?”
Lee Yoo Bi also addressed the criticism she received for her appearance during the drama’s broadcast. He revealed that the medication he was taking was causing significant swelling. “People said, ‘Why does the female lead look like that?’ But of course my face was swollen. I was taking steroids and my hands got so swollen too.

The actress explained that the physical side effects of her treatment became another source of public attention at a time when she was already struggling with her health and safety.
