Veteran actor Kim Yoon-seok and actor Kim Seon-ho will share the screen in tvN’s upcoming drama “The deputy who protects me”marking one of the most anticipated castings of the year.
The drama is based on a popular web novel of the same name and will air on tvN. It tells a political fantasy story about a powerful congressman who returns as a ghost after death and teams up with a low-ranking civil servant to change fate and navigate the political world.
The story follows Gu Young-jin, a highly skilled politician who becomes a ghost after death and seeks revenge and redemption. Then he teams up with Cha Jae-rim, an inexperienced eighth-grade civil servant who is suddenly drawn into the chaotic world of politics.
Kim Yoon-seok will take over the role of Gu Young-jin, marking his long-awaited return to television dramas after about 20 years. His character is described as a “politically minded deputy” who continues his plans even after becoming a ghost.

Kim Seon-ho will play Cha Jae-rim, a politically inexperienced government employee who unexpectedly finds himself entangled with the ghost congressman and is forced to live in a world far beyond his control.
The drama is directed by Park Shin-woo, known for acclaimed works such as It’s okay to not be okay AND Our unwritten Seoulwhile the screenplay is written by Kwon Jong-kwan, who has worked previously Confession of the murder. The combination of experienced creators has raised expectations for both storytelling and production quality.
Originally serialized on KakaoPage from 2021 to 2024, The deputy who protects me gained popularity for its fast-paced narrative and unique blend of political intrigue and fantasy elements. It was later adapted into a webtoon before finally being developed into a television drama.
