Lawyer Ko Sang-rok appeared on May 28 News today and described the scandal as: “A collective, planned crime intended to destroy an actor’s reputation and life by manipulating public perception with false evidence.”
The statement came shortly after Kim Se-ui was arrested on charges of defamation for spreading false information and violating laws related to stalking.
According to Ko Sang-rok, the court considered the alleged falsification of evidence one of the main reasons for approving the arrest warrant, citing concerns about the possible destruction of evidence.
One of the biggest revelations involved the identity of the person who allegedly provided the manipulated recordings.
According to the lawyer, the informant known as “Kali Park” he had previously made bizarre claims to people around him, including allegations that he had been attacked by an assassin allegedly hired by Kim Soo-hyun, and that actor Won Bin had personally visited him afterwards to comfort him.
Ko Sang-rok argued that these stories demonstrated the whistleblower’s lack of credibility.
The lawyer also claimed that the recordings distributed online had been heavily edited and cobbled together from multiple versions, while the original files had never been audited.
He further stated that the informant was now missing and could not be located at the moment.
According to Kim Soo-hyun’s legal team, the dispute has extended beyond the audio recordings.
Ko Sang-rok claimed that KakaoTalk messages circulating online had also been manipulated by changing profile photos and names to falsely make it appear that Kim Soo-hyun had participated in the conversations.
The lawyer also criticized some media for publishing the materials without sufficient verification.
He also revealed that lawyer Bu Ji-seok, who reportedly participated together with Kim Se-ui during the press conferences, has now been identified as a suspect due to his alleged involvement in the situation.
Kim Soo-hyun’s side is continuing aggressive legal action against those involved.
Ko Sang-rok said the actor had initially filed a lawsuit for damages worth around KRW 12 billion (around $8.7 million). However, based on the materials presented to the investigating authorities, the confirmed financial damage would have grown to almost KRW 30 billion.
The legal team said it is now considering whether to increase the amount of damages sought and potentially expand the list of defendants linked to the case.
The scandal continues to dominate Korean entertainment headlines as investigations into the alleged fabricated evidence and AI-generated recordings continue.
