On June 8, her agency, Gold Medalist, confirmed to local media that Kim Soo-hyun will shoot a commercial in the Philippines on July 14, officially marking the start of her comeback.
Kim Soo-hyun had been on hiatus since last year after YouTuber Kim Se-ui raised allegations regarding the actor’s alleged relationship with late actress Kim Sae-ron. Production on his next Elimination the project was halted and its release postponed indefinitely. Additionally, several advertisers, including companies such as FromBIO, Cuckoo Electronics, Trendmaker, Classys, Eider and Mido, have reportedly filed lawsuits seeking damages totaling approximately KRW 10 billion.
However, the situation recently changed after Kim Se-ui was reportedly arrested and referred to the prosecutor’s office on May 26 on charges of spreading false information. On June 5, the gold medalist released an official statement saying: “According to the results of the police investigation, violations were recognized including defamation through false information under the Law on Information and Communication Networks, crimes related to stalking, violations of the Special Law on Crimes of Sexual Violence, attempted coercion and threats.”
The agency continued, expressing gratitude to those who supported Kim Soo-hyun during the controversy: “We sincerely thank everyone who continued to speak out on behalf of Kim Soo-hyun as they waited for the legal process to unfold, despite not being directly involved in the case.”
He also thanked the investigative and judicial authorities, stating: “We are deeply grateful to the investigative agencies who calmly fulfilled their responsibilities based solely on evidence and facts, as well as to the judicial authorities for making fair and rigorous decisions regarding the suspect.”
As Kim Soo-hyun prepares to resume activities through overseas commercial filming, the industry’s attention is now focused on the direction her career will take moving forward.
