On May 18, tvN’s You Quiz on the Block released a preview video through its official account titled “Gong Seung Yeon’s mother’s harsh reality check that woke her up after seven years of living as an intern and staying at home all day.”
In the clip, host Yoo Jae Suk asked, “I heard that you joined SM after participating in a gayageum contest and being chosen for your visuals. I’m curious to know who your fellow trainees were at the time.”
In response, Gong Seung Yeon shared, “Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, Red Velvet and EXO were there.” Then she honestly admitted: “I didn’t have natural talent then. I wasn’t good at dancing or singing. There were reasons why I couldn’t debut.”
The actress went on to recall the uncertainty she faced after leaving the company without making her debut.
“When I finally left the company without debuting, I felt completely lost. I didn’t know how to start something on my own,” she confessed.
Gong Seung Yeon also revealed that he spent a lot of time at home after giving up on his idol dream. However, her mother’s blunt words became the turning point that pushed her to move forward.
“One day, while I was at home, my mother suddenly said to me, ‘How long are you going to waste your life at home?’ That reality check really woke me up,” he said.
Following that moment, Gong Seung Yeon explained that she began actively seeking opportunities by reaching out to people she knew and sincerely asking them to help her with her audition.
