Famous Idol Sparks Debate After Throwing Drink At Sasaeng Fan Public Opinion Takes An Unexpected Turn

Chinese idol Yue Yue, a member of boy group ONER, has become the center of online discussion after a video showing him confronting a supposed sasaeng fan at an airport went viral.

According to Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday, the incident occurred on July 5. As Yue Yue prepared to board his flight, a supposedly obsessive fan allegedly continued to film him from an extremely close range inside the airport. In videos circulating online, the singer is seen suddenly throwing the drink he was holding towards the individual, in an apparent attempt to stop the invasive behaviour.

What happened next also caught the public’s attention. Although Yue Yue reacted strongly towards the fan, he reportedly apologized to airport staff and cleaning staff who were affected by the commotion. He then personally cleaned up the spilled drink with a rag, taking responsibility for the mess he had caused.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions online. Many netizens sympathized with the idol, commenting that he must have endured repeated invasions of privacy before finally reaching his limit. Others described his response as “satisfying” and argued that celebrities should not be expected to tolerate persistent harassment.

However, critics took a different view, arguing that regardless of the circumstances, public figures should avoid actions that could be construed as physical aggression or violence.

The controversy has also brought renewed attention to another incident involving Yue Yue’s ONER member Ling Chao.

On June 30, Ling Chao was involved in a separate confrontation with alleged sasaeng fans at a train station and parking lot. Witnesses said he slapped a fan’s smartphone after it was held close to his face and became involved in a physical altercation.

In another widely shared clip, Ling Chao was seen grabbing a supposed sasaeng fan by the hair and pushing him shortly after getting out of a parked vehicle. He also reportedly snatched a mobile phone and threw it away before staff members intervened.

Following the backlash, Ling Chao’s agency released a statement explaining that those involved were people who had repeatedly violated the artist’s privacy. The company denied claims of direct physical assault and added that compensation for the damaged phone had been agreed with the other party.

ONER first gained public recognition in 2018 after appearing on iQIYI’s hit survival show Idol maker. Since debut, the group has built a loyal fan base with its mature image and performances, quickly selling out fan meetings and concerts and establishing itself as one of China’s most popular boy groups.
