Lee Dong-gun’s ex-wife Jo Yoon-hee spoke out about her parents’ divorce: ‘How terrible it must be to marry someone you don’t love’

On the November 5th episode of TV Chosun’s Now aloneJo Yoon-hee went on a date with her older sister, where she discussed family matters.

Jo Yoon-hee explained why she left before her sister, saying: “I never had the dream of living independently. I wanted to remain under the guardianship of our parents, but our family was not harmonious and I felt that if we continued to live together things would get worse. So when I had the opportunity to find my own home, I decided to live on my own.”

She continued: “I lived alone for about 10 months after I moved in and when I turned 31 our parents divorced. I ended up living with my mother just 10 months after being alone.”

Jo shared, “Mum never kept my work clippings or went out to buy the magazines I appeared in. He had his reasons. Mom and Dad didn’t marry for love. Grandma arranged the wedding, saying that my father seemed diligent enough, and that’s why they got married. Mom was depressed throughout her marriage and, looking back, probably struggled with depression from the moment she got married.”

He added, “Now I understand how terrible it must be to marry someone you don’t love, so I can understand mom’s feelings. At least I married for love and had a son that I adore, and I want to give everything to my son. Mom wasn’t in that situation, so I feel like I need to be more understanding of her in that respect.
