On May 19, the Criminal Division 1 of the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court held the fifth trial hearing of Suspect A, who was charged with robbery and causing bodily harm. During the hearing the judge proceeded with the interrogation of the accused but concluded the arguments without proceeding with the previously scheduled examination of witnesses.
During the trial, prosecutors said, “The severity of the crime is extremely serious, the defendant has shown no real remorse, and no settlement has been reached with the victims,” calling for a 10-year prison sentence.
Previously, during the defendant’s interrogation, A had stated that he had not brought a knife with him when he entered the house. He said: “I was surprised when I met Nana’s mother. She was also shocked and told me to leave. I tried to calm her down and said that I had only come to steal valuables, but she pushed me.”
He further stated, “Nana’s mother threatened me with a knife and stabbed me in the neck. I hugged her body to calm her down and never strangled her.”
The defendant further stated: “After I was stabbed, I was bleeding profusely. Nana’s mother also hit me several times. I grabbed the blade of the knife with both hands because if I let go, I thought I would die. In the end, I held it with my right hand and I could feel my skin tearing. The fight finally ended. I have never assaulted anyone. If hugging her counts as assault, then I admit it.”
Un further explained his motives during the trial, saying, “They asked me why I had committed such a crime and asked me my name and age, so I answered honestly. My mother collapsed due to a brain hemorrhage and is hospitalized. I had to borrow 10 million won from her to pay a previous fine, so I ended up trying to steal valuables.”
He further claimed that Nana told him to say the knife belonged to him before threatening to report him to the police. According to the suspect, the conversation between him, Nana and his mother lasted about 30 minutes before the police were eventually called.
The defendant continued to deny several allegations, saying: “I admit my wrongdoings, but I absolutely never carried a knife, strangled anyone, or committed violence. I have thought deeply about my actions and I am sorry.”
He also said he did not realize the victim was Nana at the time of the break-in and only learned her identity during the police investigation.
Later in court, A added: “Nana told me to claim it was my knife, so during the investigation I stated that the knife belonged to me.”
The suspect was arrested and charged after allegedly breaking into Nana’s residence in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, on November 15 last year. He was accused of threatening Nana and her mother with a gun as they attempted to steal money.
At the time of the incident, Nana and her mother allegedly subdued the suspect themselves after a physical confrontation before handing him over to the police.
Following the incident, A countersued Nana on attempted murder charges, claiming he was injured while being restrained. However, the police concluded that Nana acted in self-defense and refused to forward the case to prosecutors. Nana later filed a countersuit against the suspect for false allegations.
Nana and her mother then appeared as witnesses during the third hearing of the trial held on April 21. During the hearing, Nana allegedly showed visible anger as soon as she saw the defendant in court, asking him: “Is this funny to you?” He continued: “Is it fun to go around committing robberies like this? Look me straight in the eyes. Is it fun for you?”
During her testimony, Nana also spoke about the trauma she experienced following the incident.
“After going through all this, I thought I was fine. But without realizing it, it remained like a trauma in my life. I came here praying that this case would be solved quickly,” she said emotionally.
After the hearing, Nana communicated with fans via a fan platform, admitting: “When I saw his face, I became so angry and absurdly frustrated that I couldn’t control my emotions. But in the end I said everything I had never been able to say before.”
He added: “I said everything I wanted to say to that man and I don’t regret my actions or words. I know everyone was worried, but I’m fine. I believe this will finally end.”
Nana also posted on her personal social media account, writing, “I hope he pays the price for all his harmful crimes,” along with the phrase, “You reap what you sow.”
