Judge Shin Jong Oh, who recently presided over a high-profile financial case involving former first lady Kim Keon Hee, was found dead near the Seoul High Court.
According to multiple Korean media reports, Shin Jong Oh was discovered near the court premises around 1 am KST on May 6. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances of his death. No further official details have been released at this time.
The news attracted particular attention due to the judge’s recent involvement in a major legal case. On April 28, Shin Jong Oh issued a ruling on the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation scandal, sentencing Kim Keon Hee to four years in prison and a fine of â‚©50 million KRW (approximately $33,900 USD). The decision came after an appeal process, during which the judge overturned a previous 20-month sentence.
Given the sensitivity of the case and the judge’s decision, authorities are proceeding with caution and officials have not indicated any conclusions regarding potential causes or connections.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
