2016 became one of the darkest years of Chinese entertainment, marked by shocking deaths that have amazed the public. Next to the suspected disappearance of the actor Qiao Renlong, the murder of the model Yang Li Ping (29) by her husband Zhu Xiaadong has horrified the nation.
Murder and deception
According to police reports, on October 18, 2016, during a heated discussion, Zhu strangled his wife Yang to death. He wrapped his body in sheets and hid it inside a refrigerator. For months, Zhu continued as if nothing had happened. He also used Yang’s phone to send messages to family and friends, pretending that he was still alive. He withdrawn 200,000 RMB from his savings to finance the hotel stays with another woman after the murder.
Incredibly, Yang’s mother often visited the couple’s house to clean and take care of their dog, without ever realizing that her daughter’s body was hidden inside. On 23 August 2017, the Shanghai Popular Court sentenced Zhu to death. His parents never participated in hearings, fearing with a clash with Yang’s mourning family and public indignation.
Yang’s loved ones were devastated. They could not even keep an adequate funeral, since its remains were seriously compromised. Covered in a white cloth and sprinkled with rose water to mask the smell, his body has been laid in strainy circumstances. To date, Zhu and his family have never emitted excuses.
