The former member of the NCT Toeil (real name Moon Toeil, 31) appeared to the high court of Soul on September 17th, appealing to his prison sentence of 6 years for sexual aggression. The case provides accusations that Taeil and two acquaintances attacked a drunk foreign woman in June 2024 after meeting her in an Itaewon club.
During the first trial of July, Taeil and its co-accused were sentenced for quasi-high specials pursuant to the law on special cases concerning the punishment of sexual crimes. Next to their prison sentences, the Court ordered them to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs. The admission of guilt of the defendants, the lack of previous criminal boxes and the settlement with the victim contributed to a reduced sentence.
However, public ministries claimed the appeal that the original sentence was too indulgent, reiterating their question for seven years of imprisonment. “The crime was serious and premeditated. Even with an agreement, the punishment should reflect the severity of the offense”, Public ministries said.
In court, Taeil expressed deep remorse, stating: “I admit my crimes and I will live forever with this fault. I sincerely apologize to the victim and my family, who suffered because of my reckless actions. He tried to live honestly from now on.” His legal team stressed his collaboration with investigators, volunteering work and family difficulties in the search for a lighter penalty.
Taeil, which debuted with NCT Under SMANTERTainment in 2016, he left the group and subsequently resolved his contract in October 2024 following the scandal.
The final verdict in its appeal is scheduled for October 17, 2025.
