On September 1, Yubin shared a long message on his personal channel, writing, “Something wrapped in a family member that I love very much and I felt obliged to speak.”
Revealed, “My older sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020 and fought for years of difficult treatment. Unfortunately, cancer metastated in its brain last year and endured painful battles every day.” Yubin continued, “Fortunately, we managed to find an effective treatment, but because of financial limitations, it was almost impossible for her to receive adequate treatments. With the desperate desire to protect my sister, I am asking for your help.”
The Yubin petition to which it refers is entitled: “request for health insurance coverage and accelerated approval of Tukysa (Tucatinib) for breast cancer with brain metastases”. The signatory explained, “Although Tukysa, an essential treatment proven for patients with Metastatic Metastatic Mammary Carcinoma Her2-positive, has been approved by the Ministry of Food Safety and drugs in December last year, his internal sales remain indefinitely delayed. Patients with urgent need for treatment are forced to rely on expensive private imports.”
The costs of costs is stunning: two months of treatment with Tukysa can reach 30 million KRW and since it must be combined with other anticancer drugs, annual treatment costs can rise to almost 200 million KRW. However, it is not yet covered by insurance. The signatory underlined, “It is a tragedy that families must abandon the drug saving drugs approved by the state due to financial barriers. We take an appeal seriously to the urgent health insurance coverage for Tukysa.”
Yubin also attached the connection of the petition, exhorting once again, “It is not just my family. It is directly linked to the fact that countless other patients will be able to retain hope. I sincerely ask for your support and participation.”
The Netizen reacted with an incomplete outburst: “Strong, Yubin. We hope for the best result”, “Reality is unbearably hard: the system reform is urgent”, AND “I signed the petition. We hope this helps.”
With Yubin’s sincere appeal, attention is now focused on the speed with which this petition will get traction and lead to a significant change.
