Netizens were amused by the use of second-generation K-pop songs for the Malaysian Prime Minister’s posts on Instagram.

On November 25, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim uploaded several posts to his official Instagram account, chronicling his meeting with Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) and OCI Holdings in Seoul.

While the meeting made headlines due to its support for Malaysian investments and Hyundai’s expansion into the country’s automotive ecosystem, netizens instead focused on the account’s use of K-pop songs for background music.

The Prime Minister included songs such as Girls’ Generation’s “Gee”, which was the top song of second-generation K-pop at the time and propelled the “Nation’s Girl Group” to stardom and success.

Meanwhile, other posts also included 2NE1’s “Come Back Home,” a nostalgic throwback for many longtime K-pop fans. The latest post also used “Love” by the band CNBLUE, bringing entertainment to netizens.

A previous reel also included BIGBANG G-Dragon’s new single, “Power,” which the BIGBANG leader released on October 31 and performed live at the 2024 MAMA Awards.

Another post also featured BTS’ 2020 hit “Dynamite,” the group’s second breakthrough song in their career that further catapulted them to global success and bolstered their already thriving global recognition.

Some reels also featured Zico’s viral “Any Song” and Super Junior’s “Sorry, Sorry.”

Here’s how netizens reacted to the posts:

  • “Um, the song??”
  • “Yes! SK’s #1 girl group song.”
  • “The choice of song! You have taste in music.”
  • “We have a blackjack buddy.”
  • “Brother has been cooking since yesterday?”
