According to Taiwanese newspaper ETtoday on July 17, posts circulating on Chinese social media recently claimed that Dee Hsu had refused to serve as co-guardian of Barbie Hsu’s two children.
Some posts also claimed that the Hsu family had not properly taken care of the children after Barbie Hsu’s death and even claimed that they were not invited to the unveiling ceremony of a memorial statue dedicated to the late actress.
The children are currently believed to be living with their father, Wang Xiaofei. As the rumors gained traction, Dee Hsu decided to respond to the allegations personally.
He stated, “No one ever talked to me about becoming a co-guardian from the beginning. Legally, it is impossible for me to serve as a co-guardian.”
Dee Hsu further explained that as long as the children’s biological father maintains his parental rights, she, as their aunt, cannot legally become their guardian, dismissing the claims as false.
He also dismissed reports that the family had intentionally excluded the children from the unveiling of the memorial statue. According to Dee Hsu, the children were asked in advance if they wanted to participate and were invited to the event. “We respected the children’s wishes and the circumstances surrounding them when making the final decision on their participation,” he said.
Responding to accusations that the family had neglected Barbie Hsu’s children, Dee Hsu stressed that everyone in the family cares deeply for them. “Our whole family loves the two children very much,” he said. “We chose not to respond to any unfounded rumors because we didn’t want our family’s pain to continue to be consumed as gossip.”
He added, “Our family is still grieving and it has been incredibly painful to see false reports spread along with our loss. Remaining silent does not mean recognizing these rumors as true. I felt it was necessary to explain the facts before the misinformation was accepted as reality.”
Dee Hsu also dismissed speculation about an inheritance dispute involving her late sister. “The inheritance will be handled according to the law. It’s not something people should fight about,” he underlined.
Barbie Hsu died unexpectedly in 2025. Since then, persistent speculation has surrounded her family, particularly regarding her husband DJ Koo, her ex-husband Wang Xiaofei, the custody of her children, and the distribution of her estate.
