WJSN member Dayoung surprised fans after revealing the real reason behind his year-long weight loss journey and how he slowly changed his lifestyle to improve his performance as an artist.
On MBC’s “Radio Star,” Dayoung shared that she currently weighs around 43kg (97lbs). The studio reacted with surprise, especially since it was never considered heavy to begin with. But she quickly clarified that her transformation wasn’t about looks.
Instead, Dayoung explained that her goal was tied to her long-term dream of becoming a stronger artist. He said he wanted to build better stamina for long stages, especially if he performs for two or three hours at a time, Koreaboo reported.
“I lost about 1kg every month for a year,” Dayoung said. “If I become a global pop star one day, would I really be able to perform for two or three hours with my current stamina? I thought I needed to make my body lighter. It’s easier when you dance and also more comfortable when I sing.”
His approach was slow and steady, taking about a year to lose about 12kg in total. Rather than following an extreme diet, she focused on long-term habits that would help her stay active and consistent on stage.

Dayoung also spoke about the stars who inspired her growing up, naming Lee Hyori, Seo In Young, Jeon Hye Bin and Stephanie as role models who shaped her idea of performance and stage presence.
In another television appearance on KBS2’s “Immortal Songs,” she gave a more candid look at her diet mindset, which also attracted attention online.
According to ChosunBiz, he explained his method simply and directly, saying, “If you think ‘this will make me gain weight’ or ‘this will be bad for my health,’ you can’t just eat those foods.”
His comment sparked discussion, with some fans focusing on how harsh he sounded. But he made it clear that his approach was not to starve himself, but to slowly adapt his eating habits over time.
“It’s not about not eating at all, but about gradually changing your eating habits,” he added.
Fans have since responded positively to her honesty, saying her focus on toughness and discipline reflects the reality of idol life more than the pressure of appearance.
