Psy has reached another major milestone as his global hit music video “Gangnam Style” has officially surpassed 6 billion views on YouTube, becoming a historic achievement for K-pop. The record-breaking video reached the milestone on July 20, nearly 14 years after it was first released in July 2012.
Psy’s agency P NATION confirmed the result, highlighting the song’s continued popularity around the world.
The music video had already reached 5 billion views as of December 2023, meaning it got another billion views in just about two years, AllKPop reported.
Released at a time when K-pop had not yet become a worldwide phenomenon, “Gangnam Style” played an important role in introducing Korean music to international audiences.
The song’s captivating dance, unique style, and unforgettable riding choreography helped it become a global hit and opened doors for many K-pop artists to follow.
The song also made history in the music charts. After its release, “Gangnam Style” remained at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks, becoming one of the biggest international hits by a Korean artist at the time.
Psy celebrates YouTube’s historic milestone
P NATION described reaching 6 billion views as “a symbolic achievement in the history of K-pop,” noting that the milestone reflects the lasting influence and global appeal of Korean content.
The music video, directed by Cho Soo Hyun, became known for its humorous scenes and Psy’s signature dance moves.
Several moments from the video were widely recognized, helping the song quickly spread to several countries through social media and online platforms.
According to Billboard, “Gangnam Style” was also the first video on YouTube to reach 1 billion views in 2012, creating a new standard for music videos on the platform.
Since then, many other K-pop groups have joined YouTube’s billion-view club, including groups like BTS and BLACKPINK. However, Psy’s success remains a major turning point in the global growth of K-pop.
Meanwhile Psy continues his activities with his “PSY SUMMER SWAG 2026” tour. He is scheduled to perform in Wonju on July 25, continuing to entertain fans with his energetic performances.
