Lim Chang Jung says the audience walked out during his career-high performance

Singer Lim Chang Jung is ready to reveal a surprising story of one of the most successful yet difficult periods of his career on TV Chosun’s “Golden Friday” program.

The singer will talk about the unexpected criticism he faced after achieving great success with his hit songs.

The episode, airing on July 17 at 10pm KST, will feature Lim Chang Jung performing his famous song “A Glass of Soju” as the opening stage, AllKPop reported. The cast praised his unique style, calling him a singer who represents a genre all his own.

During the broadcast, Lim Chang Jung will also talk about the challenges of performing his songs live. His music is known for his powerful voice, high notes and long breathing techniques, which make his songs difficult for other singers to cover.

He explained that rehearsing his songs without sufficient preparation could create serious problems for artists. A singer may struggle with their voice or receive negative attention if the performance does not meet expectations.

Lim Chang Jung opens up to harsh criticism

However, one of the show’s artists, Son Bin Ah, chose to perform Lim Chang Jung’s award-winning song “Again.”

He explained that if the challenge was already difficult, he wanted to perform a song that had won a major award. His version focused more on the ballad style instead of following the original trot-inspired approach.

According to SportalKorea, the episode’s biggest moment comes when Lim Chang Jung thinks back to the time he won a Daesang after the success of “Again” and “Marry Me.”

At the time, the songs dominated the music charts and many considered him to be at the high point of his career. However, Lim Chang Jung revealed that the experience was not as positive as people expected. He shared that that period brought some of the harshest criticism he had ever received.

“I received all the insults I would ever receive in my life back then,” Lim Chang Jung said. He also recalled a painful performance, adding: “While I was singing, the whole audience left.”
