Leehom Wang injured during concert fall, receives 39 stitches after stage accident

Taiwanese singer-songwriter Leehom Wang suffered a scary accident during a concert in China after falling from the stage during his opening performance. Despite suffering serious injuries that required 39 stitches, the singer chose to continue with the show before seeking emergency medical attention.

The accident occurred on July 4 (local time) during Leehom Wang’s solo concert in Chengdu, China. While performing the opening stage, the singer reportedly tripped over a safety cable installed on the stage floor, causing him to lose his balance and fall. He hit the left side of his face against the sharp edge of a metal ladder and the impact was so violent that his in-ear monitor was destroyed.

After the fall, blood could be seen flowing from the left side of Leehom Wang’s face and ear. Instead of immediately ending the show, he received first aid backstage before returning to the stage to end the concert, honoring his commitment to the fans. After the show concluded, he was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room for treatment.

The singer then updated fans via his official account, revealing the extent of his injuries. According to Leehom Wang, the impact occurred directly on his left ear where he was wearing a rigid in-ear device. “When I fell, my left ear, where I was wearing the in-ear monitor, hit the edge of the stage, causing the cartilage in the external ear canal to rupture.”

Doctors performed emergency surgery, suturing:

  • 27 stitches in the ear
  • 12 stitches for facial injuries

A total of 39 stitches were needed. Fortunately, extensive tests confirmed that he did not suffer any injuries to his brain or skull.

Wang reassured fans by saying, “The broken cartilage caused a lot of bleeding on stage, so I know many of you must have been worried. I’m receiving proper treatment now and I’m fine.” He added that he considers himself lucky to have escaped a much more serious outcome.

Leehom Wang’s agency also released an official statement addressing the incident. Following an internal investigation, the company concluded that the accident was caused by improper use of stage cables, which caused the artist to lose balance during the descent.

The agency acknowledged the responsibility of the theatrical production team and announced that those involved are currently under internal investigation. It also pledged to strengthen safety protocols and improve on-site scene management to prevent similar incidents in the future.

News of Leehom Wang’s accident spread quickly online, with fans expressing concern after videos and photos of the concert circulated on social media. Many praised the veteran artist for completing the concert despite his injuries, while others stressed that the artist’s safety should always take priority over finishing a performance.

Thankfully, medical tests confirmed that the injuries were limited to his face and ear, and the singer is expected to focus on recovering from the scary accident.
