On June 4, actor Lee Jong Suk uploaded the second episode of his Italian travel series, titled “Lee Jong Suk’s Romantic Journey to Italy 2,” to his YouTube channel. After completing a photo shoot, Lee walked the streets of Florence and stopped at a children’s clothing store on the way to get some ice cream.
Thinking about his nephews, nieces and the children of his acquaintances, he began to choose different gifts. “Many children were born around me” Lee said. “I want to buy something for the son of this family and also for the son of that family.” After purchasing several outfits, the production team jokingly called him a “big spender in Florence.”
Lee later returned to an accessories store in which one of his staff members had shown interest the previous day. She explained that her stylist, Hye-young, had been looking closely at a necklace there. Initially, Lee misunderstood the price and thought it was relatively affordable. However, he soon discovered that the necklace cost 1,380 euros, or about 2.45 million won.
The object was decorated with diamonds and emeralds, while the rising price of gold had reportedly increased its value. Although surprised by the price, Lee ultimately decided to buy it. The purchase did not go smoothly. His card company initially declined the payment after identifying the overseas transaction as potentially fraudulent. “I couldn’t buy the necklace” Lee said with disappointment.
After contacting the card company directly, he returned to the store and successfully completed the transaction on the second attempt. “Buying a gift is not easy” he joked as he left the store. During a meal, Lee personally delivered the gift box to her stylist. She was visibly moved and revealed that she had once lost a necklace with a similar design that her father had given her.
Lee also discussed his future acting ambitions during the video. “Before I get old, I want to try things I’ve never done before” he said. “I would like to appear in a historical drama. I definitely want to play a king at least once.”
His comments sparked curiosity as to whether viewers might eventually see him take on his first real-life role in a historical production.
