JYP Entertainment donated 300 million KRW, or approximately $225,000, to help victims affected by the devastating earthquake in Venezuela. On June 26, JYP announced that the donation had been delivered to World Vision to support emergency relief operations in the disaster-stricken region.
The powerful earthquake struck Venezuela on June 24 and was followed by several aftershocks that caused widespread destruction. Within two days of the disaster, reports said the death toll had risen to over 900. More than 3,000 people were injured, while over 4,000 residents lost their homes and were forced to leave their communities, AllKPop reported.
According to JYP, the donation will be used to provide emergency food, basic necessities, clean water, sanitation support and emotional assistance to children and families affected by the earthquake.
“We hope to also offer a little help to the children and residents who lost their homes due to the unexpected disaster,” the company said in a statement. “We sincerely hope that the affected areas will regain stability as soon as possible and that everyone will return to daily life safely.”
The company’s response quickly caught the attention of fans online, many of whom praised JYP for continuing its long history of humanitarian support during global emergencies.
JYP Entertainment donates over $7.5 million
JYP regularly participated in relief activities rather than making one-off donations.
In the past year alone, the agency contributed more than KRW 1.1 billion to recovery projects related to the Myanmar earthquake, large-scale fires in South and North Gyeongsang, and the severe fire in Hong Kong.
In recent years the company has also made donations in case of major disasters. In 2023, JYP provided 500 million KRW for relief efforts following the Türkiye-Syria earthquake.
In 2022, it donated KRW 300 million to support fire recovery efforts in Gangwon and North Gyeongsang.
According to SportsKhan, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the agency contributed KRW 500 million to help prevent the spread of the virus.
In addition to disaster relief, JYP continues to push forward with its EDM campaign, which stands for “Every Dream Matters.” The project focuses on helping children and adolescents receive medical care and support.
According to the company, JYP has donated more than KRW 10 billion, or approximately $7.5 million, since 2020 through various corporate social responsibility programs. These efforts have reportedly helped more than 4,300 children across Korea and other regions of the world.
