On May 16, IU celebrated her birthday by hosting a special group viewing event for fans at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall Theater 5. Together with fans, she watched episodes of the MBC drama from Friday to Saturday”Perfect crown.”
Before leaving the theater after the screening, IU expressed gratitude to Uaena, her official fandom, for participating in the event. Then she carefully opened up about her recent thoughts.
“I think it’s because I’m currently preparing an album while the drama is also nearing an end, but lately I’ve been thinking that I need to do better and become more responsible,” he shared.
“Perfect crown” AND a fictional drama that imagines a constitutional monarchy in a modern South Korea that does not exist in reality. Even before its broadcast, the drama has attracted explosive attention simply because of the pairing between IU and Byeon Woo Seok.
However, after airing, the series was embroiled in multiple controversies. Although it was promoted as a fantasy drama, viewers continually pointed out the historical inaccuracies during the broadcast. The drama has also faced criticism for apparent plot inconsistencies, acting controversies involving the cast, directing criticism, and, most recently, suspicions regarding alleged Northeast Project distortions.
Although IU did not directly mention the controversies by name, she indirectly expressed her feelings by saying: “I should have done better. If I let you down even a little or showed any flaws, it’s all my fault.”
He continued, “I will move forward with greater responsibility and do better.” IU added, “I want to become someone that Uaena can be proud of, so I’ve been thinking a lot lately. Really, everything could have been solved if I had simply done better. Since I’m someone who gets so much love from all of you, I’m going to become even more responsible and work harder.”
The singer-actress also vowed to further improve herself moving forward. “I want to become an IU who can show everyone an even better side of myself. I will truly live without missing a single moment,” she said. “Even so, I still have many flaws, so I am deeply grateful that you continue to love and support me.”
IU also emphasized that she sincerely listens to feedback from fans and the public. “I believe everything you say has a reason behind it and it’s something I should accept,” he explained. “If there are areas where I am lacking, please continue to tell me. Please scold me and push me more, because I want to listen carefully and become a better person moving forward.”
Finally, IU concluded by once again apologizing to fans and expressing gratitude for their continued support. “I want to show you the best sides of myself, so I’m sorry for the areas where I still fall short. Even so, thank you so much for continuing to give me opportunities and viewing me with love. I will truly work harder and do better,” she said warmly.
