On the June 20 broadcast of the MBC variety show Hangout with YooYoo Jae Suk, Haha, Heo Kyung Hwan and Joo Woo Jae met with Girls’ Generation subunit “HyoRiSoo” (Hyoyeon, Yuri and Sooyoung) and spent time chatting together.
Yoo Jae Suk welcomed the trio warmly. Hyoyeon, the group’s lead singer, jokingly called out Sooyoung for refusing to recognize her as the leader, saying: “She’s gotten older and now she refuses to admit it.” In response, Sooyoung drew a line at age, saying: “I’m the youngest member of HyoRiSoo. They were both born in 1989, while I was born in 1990.”
Sooyoung also jokingly revealed, “Hyoyeon has developed a bit of celebrity syndrome.” Yoo Jae Suk burst out laughing and replied: “You debuted 20 years ago and only now are you getting celebrity syndrome?”
The conversation then turned to the Girls’ Generation days. When Joo Woo Jae jokingly asked Sooyoung if she had fewer singing parts because she was almost 180 centimeters tall, Hyoyeon explained: “Back then, she was considered extremely high among idols.”
Sooyoung replied, “I feel like I was born in the wrong era.” He continued, “Nowadays, there are many idols as tall as Jang Won Young. These kinds of members are often the focus now. If I debuted as a girl group member today, I think I could have been the focus.”
However, his colleagues quickly rejected the idea. Hyoyeon and Yuri responded in unison, saying: “There’s no way,” “You shake your hair too much” AND “You looked too lanky and the overall image wasn’t quite right.” Sooyoung’s shocked expression only added to the laughter.
Hyoyeon also opened up about Girls’ Generation’s hit song Kissing You. Yoo Jae Suk commented, “Recently, a lot of Girls’ Generation videos have appeared in my algorithm. Seeing you perform Kissing You while holding a giant lollipop looks completely different from your current image.”
To everyone’s surprise, Hyoyeon confessed, “My heart hurt a lot then.” Then he jokingly added: “I wanted to break all those lollipops”, making the entire studio laugh.
