On May 22, Yura uploaded a new video to her YouTube channel YuraYuraHae, where she invited actress Kim Hee Jung as a guest for a candid conversation.
During the video, Yura reflected on her experience filming the film Marrying the mafia: the returns and revealed that her lifestyle at the time caused her to gain weight rapidly.
“Back then I drank almost every day” Yura explained. “I maintained 47 kg for four years, but during the filming of that film I gained 8 kg in just two months.”
Kim Hee Jung appeared surprised by the revelation and pointed out that 56kg was considered a perfectly normal weight for Yura’s height of 170cm.
However, Yura admitted that that number seemed shocking to her because she had never weighed more than 54kg in her life.
The former Girl’s Day member later confessed that she became obsessed with losing weight soon after.
“After the movie, I barely ate and worked desperately to immediately get back to 47 kg,” he shared.
Unfortunately, the extreme diet led to visible health changes that profoundly affected her appearance.
Yura explained that after completely eliminating alcohol and drastically reducing her food intake, her cheeks suddenly became sunken and she felt she looked noticeably older.
“Losing weight when you get older is different than when you are young” he admitted honestly.
Ultimately, Yura decided to gain weight back for health reasons.
“I gained back up to 50 kg and my face looked much better again,” he said.
Even after regaining weight, Yura revealed that many people were still concerned about her appearance and often asked her if she was sick or needed medical check-ups because she looked too thin.
Her candid confession quickly gained attention online, with many viewers praising the actress-idol for honestly discussing the harsh pressures surrounding body image in the Korean entertainment industry.
Fans have also expressed concern about the extreme dieting methods that celebrities often feel forced to follow in order to maintain certain beauty standards.
