Former IOI member Kim Do-yeon makes her Cannes debut with “Dora”

Actress and former IOI member Kim Do-yeon will make her first appearance at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival with the film Dora, directed by Jung Ju-ri.

The film was officially invited to the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, marking a significant milestone for both the director and the cast. The world premiere is scheduled for the 17th, followed by the domestic theatrical release in the second half of the year.

Kim Do-yeon shared her heartfelt emotions about stepping onto the Cannes red carpet for the first time, saying she hopes “the time we spent reaches people honestly and sincerely.” Her role as Dora centers on a young woman who experiences her first encounter with love while dealing with an inexplicable illness during a summer stay at a seaside villa after leaving Seoul.

Director Jung Ju-ri continues her strong presence at Cannes, after the previous selections of Dohee-ya (Un certain Regard) and Next Sohee (closing film of Critics’ Week). With Dora’s entry into the Directors’ Fortnight, all of her feature films have now been invited to the Cannes sections: an impressive achievement in her career.

Co-star Sakura Ando, ​​who plays Nam-i, also brings with her strong Cannes experience, having appeared in award-winning films such as Shoplifters (2018) and Monster (2023). This marks his first collaboration in a Korean production.
