On July 6, photos of Edison Chen posing with several friends in Tokyo, Japan began circulating on social media. Dressed in loose, rugged clothing with his hair tied back, the actor revealed that much of his bangs had gone grey. His tired face, sunken eyes and visible wrinkles around his mouth quickly became the focus of the discussion. While some Weibo users commented on it Chen’s good looks had faded and he appeared to be over 46 years oldothers defended him, saying he was simply enjoying a carefree lifestyle without worrying about maintaining an idol image or meeting public expectations.
A few days earlier, Chen had also been spotted walking in a busy shopping district with his wife and daughter. Wearing another oversized dress with her hair tied back, Chen once again attracted attention for her remarkably casual appearance. Next to him, his daughter, now almost shoulder height with her father, has impressed many with her pretty features, which are very reminiscent of those of her mother, supermodel Qin Shupei.
In recent years, Edison Chen’s lifestyle has become very different from when he was one of Hong Kong’s biggest movie stars. Rather than focus on acting, he turned to fashion, art and expanding his personal business empire. Today he is primarily known as CLOT’s creative director, having largely stepped away from the entertainment industry. After ending his long partnership with Nike, he began collaborating with Adidas Originals.
Between 2024 and 2026, CLOT introduced numerous collaborations with Adidas, including special editions of the Gazelle, Stan Smith, Taekwondo, Mundial and projects involving BAPE. His designs increasingly emphasize the fusion of traditional Chinese cultural elements with modern streetwear for a global audience. Hong Kong publications such as Lifestyle Asia HK have described Edison Chen as a fashion entrepreneur and one of the most influential figures in Asian street culture rather than a mere entertainer. He has also been invited to major fashion events in Paris and Milan as a cultural figure representing Asian fashion, art and contemporary design.
Outside of work, Chen has made family his top priority. He often spends time with his wife, Qin Shupei, and their daughter, Alaia, often sharing moments of family vacations, museum visits, shopping, and sports activities.
Born in 1980 in Canada, Edison Chen is one-eighth Portuguese and has built a successful career as an actor, singer and fashion designer. During the height of his career in Hong Kong, he starred in numerous successful films and was widely regarded as one of the city’s most handsome young actors. In 2006, he was even voted Hong Kong’s most handsome young star, beating popular names including Louis Koo, Daniel Wu and Nicholas Tse. However, following the infamous leaked intimate photo scandal involving several female celebrities, Chen announced his retirement from the entertainment industry.
He later married supermodel Qin Shupei, who entered the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2012. The couple welcomed their daughter in 2017 and now live in a $2.85 million home in Los Angeles, where they continue to focus on family life as Chen expands her global fashion business.
