JoyNews24, South Korea’s leading business and entertainment newspaper, commemorated its 20th anniversary by publishing a survey of 200 music industry officials.
One of the categories included was the “Best Singers of 2024” ranking, where data was collected from September 30th to October 8th.
The criterion for choosing the best singers this year has been made simple, that is, choosing the artists who created the most popular songs of 2024, despite the problems related to excessive viral marketing.
As a result, aespa and Day6 both secured first place with 59 votes each.
In particular, JYP’s K-pop rock group Day6, whose members just completed their military service, experienced a turnaround this year thanks to previous songs “Time of Our Life”, “You Were Beautiful”, “HAPPY” and “Congratulations.”
They kept the momentum going by releasing their albums “FOUREVER” and “Band Aid.”
After nine years since their debut in 2015, they released their first Perfect All-Kill (PAK) with “HAPPY”.
Meanwhile, aespa also reigned on the music scene this 2024 with their unique and unrivaled “iron taste” music, such as “Supernova”, “Armageddon” and “Whiplash”. They are the only singers loved for their complex songs that seem uninteresting at first, but eventually grow on listeners. That’s how solid their team color is.
After the two groups, NewJeans came in third place with 40 votes.
Despite the conflict between HYBE and Min Hee Jin, the quintet still held their ground with the songs “How Sweet”, “Bubble Gum” and “Supernatural”.
With 13 votes each, IU, Lim Young Woong and SEVENTEEN secured their respective places in 4th place, while RIIZE and ZEROBASEONE (ZB1) tied for 7th place with 4 votes each.
The other K-pop stars who made the list with 1 vote each are Park Jinyoung, BTS, (G)I-DLE, The Boyz, Xdinary Heroes, Plave, ATEEZ, Kiss of Life and IVE.
