aespa fans claim that the quartet’s new song “Whiplash” has already surpassed their previous hit, “Supernova”.
On October 21st, aespa made their long-awaited return with their fifth mini-album, “Whiplash.” The official music video for the lead track was also released on the same day.
The song is an EDM-based dance track that features loud, fast-paced bass and house beats. Its lyrics then describe the confident charm of the four-member group, challenging standards and criteria and changing landscapes wherever they go.
This song came after his “taste of iron” concept with his cyberpunk hit “Supernova,” released in May.
Surprisingly, the girl group moved away from this concept and tried the techno genre for the first time since their debut.
Despite this big leap, aespa is showing good responses for this song, and seeing the rave reviews from music fans and their MY fandoms, it is expected that “Whiplash” will take over in the second half of this year as well.
In Korean online communities, K-Netz praised the hitmakers’ solid live skills, visuals and powerful performance with another strong and compelling song.
Some have also said that “Whiplash” is their best release yet, surpassing “Supernova”, the same song that ranked first on the MelOn Hot 100.
Here are some of the comments:
- “No, it seems like aespa are releasing better songs as time goes by. They’re better than ‘Supernova’.”
- “Is the song so good?! No need to say anything about the MV, the members’ pictures and the performance. This is almost the first time I’ve listened to an aespa song properly, but I like it so much that I’m playing the music video for the seventh time right now.”
- “It’s amazing. I think they are the most iconic idol groups in our country.”
- “I like it better than ‘Supernova.’
- “The music video is sensational.”
