The tone and manner “said a lot,” according to viewers.
For “OT5” TVXQ fans, see former members Kim Junsu AND Kim Jaejoong returning to public television was exciting, given the two JYJ the members had been unable to appear on music and entertainment programs following the dramatic fallout SM Entertainment in 2009.
For this reason, the last episode of KBS‘S The best recipe from the stars at Fun-Staurant—in which Kim Junsu and Kim Jaejoong guest together and share the most cherished stories about their time as TVXQ, has been dubbed a treasure.
In the episode, while talking about how he “[doesn’t] you want to hide [his] passed as TVXQ,” Kim Jaejoong talked about how, in the beginning of everything, he existed Lee Soo Man.
Kim Jaejoong: For me, I don’t want to hide and circumvent what happened in the past. I’m not ashamed of my time as TVXQ. I don’t hate him.
Kim Junsu: Obviously not.
Kim Jaejoong: Right? Of course, we have terrible memories. But we also have some beautiful ones. We definitely had a great time. We can’t deny it. And… we came to life because of him. It is He who produced us and brought us into the world. So I’m grateful to him.
Kim Junsu: Yes, I agree.
When he talked about his meeting with Lee Soo Man on the same flight, however, Kim Junsu couldn’t help but react with a little cheek.
Kim Jaejoong: That’s why, when I met him on a flight, I wrote him a letter. I told him that despite what happened, I was grateful…
Kim Junsu: And he said?
Kim Jaejoong: He just patted me on the back and told me to keep working hard.
The caption, when Kim Junsu reacts, reads: “What did you say?” OR “What did he say?” in the Korean honorific. But in the audio, Kim Junsu actually says, “뭐래?” OR “He said what?” in informal Korean. It has therefore been assumed that KBS has “toned down” the reaction, adapting better to public television.

After the episode, Kim Junsu’s tone and manner went viral across online communities, with viewers pointing out how brief and fierce the reaction was (and, perhaps, “rightly”). Some commented, given Kim Junsu’s usual character of extreme kindness, the reaction shows his true feelings towards Lee Soo Man as a person. Others commented that his reaction wasn’t wild enough, considering the drama Lee Soo Man put him through.
- “Oh, Junsu.”
- “Haha, that’s funny.”
- “Kim Junsu is the kind of person who uses honorifics to contest items when he can. LOL. His tone and manner in that reaction says a lot, it’s funny.
- “Lee Soo Man is lucky that Kim Junsu didn’t start cursing him at that moment, haha.”
- “Show respect for a former boss who screwed me over for ten years or more? Absolutely not. I never could.”
- “‘뭐래’ is also very filtered, in my opinion…”
- “Maybe Junsu would have said a lot more if the cameras weren’t there, haha. Kim Jaejoong is definitely the more forgiving one. I think most of us would be more like Kim Junsu.
- “Yo, I would have been like, ‘Oh yeah? And what the fuck did his old asses say?’ AS…”
