The second season of the Disney+ original series “A Shop for Killers” returns with more action, revenge and unanswered mysteries as Lee Dong Wook and Kim Hye Jun reunite for another dangerous battle.
Season 2 will continue the story of Jung Ji An and Jung Jin Man as they face a stronger enemy and prepare for a new battle against the global organization Babylon.
Lee Dong Wook, who plays former Babylon mercenary and Murthehelp founder Jung Jin Man, shared that he felt pressure to make the new season even better after the success of the first installment.
During a press conference held on July 20 in Seoul, the actor promised viewers a more intense experience, full of powerful action scenes and emotional moments.
“After the success of the first season, I felt the pressure to make the second season even better,” said Lee Dong Wook. “Otherwise there would be no point in making a second season, so I gave it my all,” KoreaTimes reported.
The second season begins after the shocking events of the first season, in which Jin Man appeared to be dead. The new story reveals that he had faked his death and brings him back together with his granddaughter Ji An, who has become the new leader of Murthehelp. Together, they launch a counterattack against Babylon while uncovering more secrets about the organization.
Lee Dong Wook explained that the new season expands beyond the original novel and explores the unanswered questions of the first chapter.
“We started by wondering what kind of organization Babylon really is and why they targeted Jung Jin Man,” he said. “Season 2 further expands the world of Babylon.”
Lee Dong Wook and Kim Hye Jun return for more action
Kim Hye Jun returns as Jung Ji An, who has grown from a frightened survivor to a stronger leader.
Unlike the first season, which only focused on survival, Ji An now takes the responsibility of protecting Murthehelp and fighting his enemies. She also geared up for more gun-based action as her character developed.
New cast members Jung Yoon Ha, Hyunri, and Masaki Okada join the series as important figures tied to Babylon, adding further danger to the ongoing conflict. Recurring actors Jo Han Sun and Geum Hae Na will also continue their roles in the action-packed story.
According to AllKPop, director Lee Kwon said that the main theme of the second season is retribution and growth. “Every attack has a counterattack,” he explained, noting that the story focuses on the choices Ji An makes as she becomes an adult through survival.
The first season garnered international recognition, including being named one of the best international TV shows by the New York Times and being included among TIME’s Top 4 Korean Dramas of the Year.
His stylish action scenes also created the popular “Jung Jin Man syndrome” among fans.
Season two of “A Shop for Killers” premieres July 22, with two episodes released first and new episodes arriving every Wednesday following.
