Veteran Hong Kong actor Patrick Tse has died at the age of 89, his son, actor and singer Nicholas Tse confirmed in a heartfelt statement shared on social media. The entertainment icon, whose career spanned more than seven decades, was one of the most recognizable figures in Hong Kong film and television.
Announcing the news on his personal social media account, Nicholas Tse expressed his deep sorrow while celebrating his father’s lifelong dedication to the entertainment industry. “It is with deep sadness that I announce that my father, Patrick Tse, has left us,” he wrote. “He dedicated his entire life to cinema and entertainment, always hoping to bring joy and smiles to audiences.”
Nicholas reflected on watching his father overcome difficult times in his life while remaining committed to his work. “He always said, ‘The show must go on.’”
The actor asked fans not to cry excessively, but instead remember Patrick Tse as the charismatic actor who always welcomed audiences with confidence and a smile. “If you remember the Fourth Brother, my father, do not cry or be overly sad. Just keep in your heart the image of him smiling brightly and that is enough.”
According to Hong Kong media, Nicholas Tse immediately returned to Hong Kong after receiving the news while preparing for his upcoming concerts in mainland China scheduled for July 25 and 26. Sources said the funeral will be held privately and simply, honoring Patrick Tse’s wishes during his lifetime.
Born Tse Ka-yuk in 1936, Patrick Tse entered the entertainment industry in the 1950s. Because he was the fourth child in his family and later played Luo Sihai in TVB’s classic gambling drama The shell gamehe became affectionately known by the nickname “Fourth Brother” (Si Gor) among fans and colleagues.
