SEVENTEEN member Mingyu attracted hundreds of enthusiastic fans during his promotional event in Hong Kong, but the appearance quickly became a talking point online after reports of a bad smell incident during the long wait outside the venue.
Mingyu attended a coffee branding event at Harbor City in Tsim Sha Tsui on July 11. Local reports say that more than 500 fans had already gathered outside the mall by midnight, and many chose to wait all night for a chance to see member SEVENTEEN. Videos shared online showed long lines stretching outside the venue.
Fans came prepared with folding stools, portable fans and other supplies as they waited for the event. Staff members were also present to manage the crowd. However, the large gathering attracted unexpected attention after reports said a fan may have had a bathroom accident while waiting in line, TheStandard reported.
According to posts circulating online, some people nearby noticed a strong odor, and staff members reportedly used air freshener in an attempt to cover it up.

According to Koreaboo, some social media users also claimed to have seen a diaper inside a plastic bag, although details of the incident have not been independently confirmed. The story spread quickly on platforms including Threads and X, with many users reacting with surprise while others expressed sympathy, noting the difficult late-night waiting conditions in crowded areas.
Despite the online controversy, Mingyu received a warm welcome when he appeared at the event. Loud applause from the fans filled the venue, and he repeatedly motioned for everyone to lower their voices so they could hear the emcee. He even covered one ear as he tried to follow the conversation.
The event also continued with several fun moments. Mingyu thanked fans for their support and said he was happy to return to Hong Kong. He said he wanted to have dim sum after the event, and the host also recommended him to try a pineapple bun.
During the program, Mingyu participated in a Cantonese slang challenge and played games with fans. When SEVENTEEN’s song “THUNDER” was played, he surprised fans by showing off some dance moves while the audience sang along.
Before leaving, Mingyu posed for photos, greeted fans, and thanked everyone for attending. He said he regrets not being able to greet each fan individually, but wished everyone good health and hopes to meet them again.
