Song Il Kook jokes about wife who saved him from prison: ‘I could have ended up with a criminal record’

On May 20 MBN Day and Night by Kim Joo Ha released a preview video titled “The Hidden Instincts of Song Il Kook’s Talk Show.” Appearing on a talk show for the first time in a long time, the actor attracted attention with his entertaining storytelling and outspoken personality.

During the broadcast, host Kim Joo Ha jokingly introduced Song Il Kook as “the man who shouts ‘Daehan Minguk Manse’ every day,” making everyone laugh.

Moon Se Yoon then asked what the current status is of the beloved triplets, who gained nationwide popularity thanks to their television appearances as children.

With a deep sigh, Song Il Kook gave a matter-of-fact answer that immediately made the studio burst into laughter. He said, “I have to be careful. I’m in my second year of middle school now. The kids I knew have left and completely different kids have arrived.”

The actor’s relatable comments resonated with viewers, especially as audiences watched Daehan, Minguk, and Manse grow from adorable children to teenagers entering puberty.

Song Il Kook also openly expressed affection and gratitude towards his wife, who is known for working as a judge.

Joking about his youth, he said, “I was honestly really immature back then. I barely avoided doing things that would leave me with a criminal record. I might as well be in prison right now.”

He then added with another joke, “I could have met my wife somewhere else instead,” hinting that he might meet her in court or prison, causing the studio to burst into laughter again.

Beyond humor, Song Il Kook also spoke candidly about his maternal grandfather, independence activist General Kim Chwajin.

He shared, “Of course I’m proud of him, but people only focus on my grandfather. In fact, there were countless independence fighters who sacrificed themselves.”

The actor continued with a more serious message, saying: “I am an exception, but many descendants of independence activists struggle not only with education, but also with making a living.” His heartfelt comments added emotional weight to the conversation.

In the meantime, Day and Night by Kim Joo Ha airs every Saturday at 9.40pm KST.
