On April 1, Soobin shared a vlog TXT’s YouTube channeldocumenting his trip to Cebu in the Philippines. In the video he takes a taxi from the airport to his accommodation.
According to the footage, the expected fare that he checked in advance was around 300 pesos (around 7,500 KRW). However, the driver initially asked for 500 pesos and later increased the price to 1,000 pesos during the trip. After a dispute, the two eventually settled on 500 pesos, but Soobin expressed dissatisfaction, noting that the fee was still excessive.
When the video attracted attention and was picked up by local media, the problem escalated rapidly. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), under the Philippine Department of Transportation, has launched an official investigation into the accident.
Authorities ordered the driver involved to surrender his license and license plates and imposed a 30-day suspension from business.
The agency cited the driver’s failure to use the meter and overcharging as serious violations that could damage the country’s image. Reports also indicate that depending on the outcome of the investigation, further sanctions are being considered, including criminal charges and possible confiscation of the vehicle.
