In the March 22 broadcast of Running Manthe cast turned detectives while Park Shin Yang appeared as a client, presenting a special mission. Located inside an art gallery displaying over 150 works, he explained that a genuine masterpiece had disappeared among numerous replicas. Members were tasked with finding the real painting among more than 20 scattered pieces using hidden clues.
Despite the captivating concept, Song Ji Hyo’s minimal screen time, often referred to as “background character” OR “wallflower” presence – remained unchanged. He spoke for the first time only about 10 minutes into the episode, and other than a brief food segment halfway through, he had little noticeable participation. The controversy over its limited airtime has persisted for two weeks already.
Similar issues have arisen in the past, but the production team has generally made an effort to spice up her presence by giving her more opportunities. However, this time around, there seems to be little indication that the staff is attempting to increase his screen time.
During a relay draw game, Song Ji Hyo asked to review the question, prompting reactions from the other members. Kim Jong Kook responded, “Didn’t you see it?” while Ji Suk Jin added, “We showed this three seconds ago…Are you a goldfish?” Haha also expressed disbelief. Whether due to lack of focus or intentional humor, the moment failed to generate laughter.
Following Park Shin Yang’s appearance, other guests including Sung Si Kyung and Lee Changsub appeared in segments that will continue in the March 29 episode. Yet, even in these parts, Song Ji Hyo did not stand out. Instead, new cast member Ji Ye Eun attracted attention through a playful “love line” involving MeloMance’s Kim Min Seok.
Song Ji Hyo, despite being a long-time member Running Man for 17 years, is once again at the center of controversy due to its almost invisible presence. Viewers pointed this out in episodes lasting more than 90 minutes, his screen time sometimes amounts to less than a minute, raising concerns about both his participation and the direction of the show.
